Tandem is a language exchange app where, instead of in a bar or pub, you'll chat from the comfort of your Android device. Thanks to this, you can start chatting to other users from anywhere in the world, with the only requirement being that they want to practice the same languages as you. You can talk about whatever you want, as long as you're both happy to do so.

Create a user account to use the app

You need to create an account to use Tandem. First, you must enter an email address and some basic information. Next, you'll have to answer a series of questions about exactly why you want to practice your language. Then, once the Tandem team has reviewed your application (a process that can take anywhere from a few minutes to several days), you'll receive an email confirmation. Only then will you be able to log in and chat with other app users.

Loads of people to talk to

Regardless of the languages you know and want to practice, chances are you'll find dozens and dozens of people to talk to on Tandem. The free version of the app allows you to have up to five conversations simultaneously. You can video call or simply chat; it's up to you. Sometimes, especially at lower language levels, using the chat is recommended. But if you want to practice conversation or pronunciation, the video call option may be more useful.

Subscribe for more features

Although Tandem is free to use, you can also subscribe to its Premium version to access more features. Thanks to this Premium version, you can turn off in-app ads, see who has viewed your profile, or easily find others near your location. This way, you could even meet in person to continue practicing.
